‘Printer’s Ink is the Greater Explosive’ (Ferlinghetti)

[GINSBERG, Allen, Lawrence FERLINGHETTI, Kenneth PATCHEN, et al.] The Pocket Poets Series. A run of the first 25 volumes. San Francisco: The City Lights Bookshop. 1955-1968.

Twenty-five volumes; small 8vo. All in original publisher’s typographic card wrappers printed in a variety of colours including yellow, red, blue and green, vols 21 and 22 with cover illustrations/photographs; some including black-and-white photographs, housed in a custom-made solander box; overall light shelfwear and marking, all minimal; vol. 3 with some light marking to covers, spotting to prelims and outer edge, and toning to spine; vols 5 and 6 with small dampstains to covers; vol. 7 with previous owners ink initials to front cover; vol. 16 spine expertly reinforced; vol. 19 with corner crease to upper cover; vol. 22 with previous ownership name in ink to title; some covers a little rubbed to extremities, others a little toned to the wraps; a remarkably fresh set.

First editions, first printings, comprising the first twenty-five titles in the Pocket Poets Series, from Ferlinghetti's Pictures of the Gone World (1955) to Pablo Picasso's Hunk of Skin (1968).

Issued by Lawrence Ferlinghetti's City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, the Pocket Poets Series was one of the most influential publishing ventures of post-war America. Conceived as an inexpensive paperback series that would bring contemporary poetry to a wider audience, it provided an early platform for writers including Frank O'Hara, Kenneth Patchen, Bob Kaufman, Allen Ginsberg, and William Carlos Williams, while helping to define the literary identity of the San Francisco Renaissance and the Beat writers. Its distinctive typographic wrappers, indebted to contemporary political pamphlets and little magazines, became, and remains, one the most recognisable designs in twentieth-century American publishing.

The series began in August 1955 with Ferlinghetti's own Pictures of the Gone World, a volume whose performative energy and conversational style quickly found an audience in the coffeehouses and improvised venues of San Francisco. Over the next thirteen years, the Pocket Poets Series published many of the defining voices of post-war American poetry, combining avant-garde experimentation with unprecedented accessibility, reaching readers beyond traditional literary circles. Among its most celebrated publications was Ginsberg's Howl and Other Poems (1956), the fourth title in the series. Ferlinghetti had first heard Howl performed at the now legendary Six Gallery reading of 7 October 1955, an event often regarded as the symbolic beginning of the Beat movement. Returning home, he sent Ginsberg a telegram echoing Emerson's letter to Whitman: 'I greet you at the beginning of a great career. When do I get the manuscript?'

The publication of Howl brought national attention to both City Lights and the Pocket Poets Series. In 1957 Ferlinghetti and City Lights manager Shigeyoshi Murao were arrested for publishing and selling the book. The ensuing obscenity trial culminated in a ruling that Howl was not obscene, a landmark victory against censorship that significantly expanded legal protections for literary expression in the United States and cemented the reputation of both the series and its publisher.

Chemical Guys Leather Quick Detailer for Car Interiors 32oz
Size: 32 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Reliable Quick Cleaner for Leather Interiors I’ve been using the Chemical Guys Leather Quick Detailer on my car’s interior for a while now, and it’s become one of those go-to products I like to keep on hand. As the name suggests, this is designed for quick touch-ups rather than deep cleaning, and for that purpose, it really does the job well. The first thing I noticed is how easy it is to use. A couple of sprays on the leather seats or steering wheel, a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth, and the surface instantly looks cleaner. It removes light dust, dirt, and fingerprints in seconds. Unlike some products I’ve tried in the past, it doesn’t leave behind a slick or greasy feel, which is important when you’re dealing with things like a steering wheel or gear shifter that you’re constantly touching. Instead, the finish is clean, soft, and natural-looking, which is exactly what I want. The scent is another plus. It has a pleasant, subtle leather fragrance that makes the car smell fresh without being overwhelming or chemical-like. I don’t like products that leave behind a strong odor, and this one strikes the right balance. Another strength is its versatility. While it’s marketed as a car interior detailer, I’ve found it works well on other small leather items, like a laptop bag or even a chair at home. Obviously, it’s not a replacement for a full leather conditioner, but for light upkeep it’s nice to have a single product that can handle more than just my car. That said, there are a few things that keep this from being a perfect 5-star product. First, it’s definitely not designed for deep cleaning—if your leather is heavily soiled, stained, or dried out, this won’t be enough. You’d need a dedicated cleaner and conditioner for a full restoration. Second, the spray nozzle can be a bit inconsistent, sometimes giving off more of a stream than a fine mist. It’s not a huge issue, but it can waste product or make application less even if you’re not careful. Lastly, while it makes leather look clean and refreshed, it doesn’t provide as much conditioning as some other products, so if you’re looking for something that really nourishes and protects long term, this is more of a maintenance step than a solution. Overall, though, I’m very satisfied. The Chemical Guys Leather Quick Detailer is perfect for keeping leather looking sharp between major cleanings. It’s fast, effective, and leaves behind a clean finish without unwanted residue. It saves me time and keeps my car interior looking well cared for, which is exactly what I want from a quick detailer. I’d rate it 4 stars—an excellent product for regular maintenance and touch-ups, with just a few small shortcomings that prevent it from being the ultimate all-in-one leather care solution.

Great leather cleaner
Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Bought this because I accidentally got some sunscreen stains on my leather interior in my car. Just a quick spray of this and a wipe with a microfiber towel and the stains are gone! Very pleased with the product and would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a nice leather cleaner!

Works as advertised and smells good
Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
My daughter and I went to the beach. She didn't put her cover up back on and got sunscreen on the black leather seats. This stuff worked great. Cleaned it off and hopefully protects for anything else headed towards my seats in the future.

This will melt built up dirt in no time.
Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I bought a 3 bottle set that included the interior cleaner, cloth cleaner and leather cleaner. All three worked really well when I used them. The cloth cleaner lifted and disolved the surface dirt from the the seats and made easier to use a portable wet vac to vacuum the dirt. The interior cleaner did a far superior job on melting built up dirt on the seats, dashboard, steering wheel and other surfaces. The leather cleaner did pretty much the same as the other two and I can see myself buying this again. It dried quickly too
