This is a one-of-a-kind piece. Where ink drops through the top layer of hand woodblock printing over 8 to 12 printings across a month, the aged cotton beneath reveals the Desert Rose pattern - a pale cream ground in the upper half densely scattered with red and coral rose blooms and olive-green leaves, painterly and lush. A bold horizontal band of vivid burnt orange cuts across the centre like a desert horizon at dusk. Below, a warm amber-gold ground carries the same rose and floral forms continuing through in deeper, sun-baked tones - the garden dissolving into the desert. Slate-blue flange frames the whole composition. Each is entirely unrepeatable.

The Blue Iris linen-cotton backing echoes the slate-blue of the flange and the cool tones drifting through the rose ground, grounding the warm amber and orange of the front with a deep, considered cool. A 1cm flat flange frames the cover, finished with quiet precision.
