Certified Moon rock in three sizes, each piece a fragment of the lunar highlands

Laâyoune 002 is a classified lunar meteorite recovered from Western Sahara in 2022. As a feldspathic breccia, it originates from the ancient highland crust of the Moon, the pale, heavily cratered terrain that covers most of the lunar surface and represents some of the oldest crustal material in the solar system. Each specimen is housed in a compact display case with a custom specimen card showing the actual weight of the piece you receive.

Select your size

Each size carries a guaranteed minimum weight. You will receive a specimen at or above the minimum for the size selected. Photos shown are representative examples from actual inventory. Because every piece of lunar breccia is heterogeneous by nature, surface texture, color, and clast distribution vary between specimens.

Size Minimum Weight Price
Small 0.10g $35.00
Medium 0.25g $40.00
Large 0.50g $45.00

Structure and features

Feldspathic breccias are among the most geologically complex meteorite types. Breccia describes a rock assembled from fragments of earlier rocks, cemented together by impact-generated heat and pressure. In the case of Laâyoune 002, those fragments are predominantly feldspar-rich material from the lunar highlands, pale, calcium-rich plagioclase that crystallized when the Moon's magma ocean solidified over four billion years ago.

Under magnification, the brecciated texture is immediately apparent: angular clasts of varying size and composition embedded in a fine-grained matrix of crushed and partially melted material. The overall color is light gray to off-white, typical of highland-derived lunar material with low iron and magnesium content relative to mare basalts.

Scientific context

Lunar meteorites are ejected from the Moon by large impacts that accelerate material above lunar escape velocity. Laâyoune 002 is classified as a lunar feldspathic breccia, placing it among the materials representing the Moon's original anorthositic crust, some of the oldest planetary material recoverable on Earth. This type of lunar material is less common in meteorite collections than mare basalts. Learn more on our Learn About Meteorites page.

Frequently asked questions

Is this meteorite authenticated? Yes. Laâyoune 002 is an officially classified lunar meteorite. See the Meteoritical Bulletin entry for Laâyoune 002. Every specimen includes a Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. certificate of authenticity.

What does feldspathic breccia mean? Feldspathic means the rock is dominated by feldspar minerals, specifically the calcium-rich plagioclase that makes up the Moon's ancient highland crust. Breccia means the rock is an impact-assembled mixture of older rock fragments. Together, the classification indicates ancient crustal material shattered and reassembled by repeated impacts over billions of years.

What is included? Your selected size specimen in a display box, a custom specimen card with the actual weight, and a Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. certificate of authenticity.

Collector significance

Certified lunar material is among the most sought-after specimens in meteorite collecting. Laâyoune 002 offers collectors access to genuine Moon rock at multiple price points, with documented classification and proper certification. The feldspathic breccia classification places it among the older, geologically more complex lunar materials, a meaningful distinction for collectors building a scientifically representative lunar collection. Great dog balls at a great price
Size: Medium
The balls are a favorite for my dog. I could have done without the hole through the middle because I don't do treats in balls anyway. My dog loves balls for their own merit. I needed replacement balls for my Nerf Dog Ball launcher. It seems the originals have disappeared from the market. I took a chance because the price is right and this Chuck-it ball works very well so we're liking this ball a lot. So far my Dachsund, who can destroy a tennis ball (the kind they are selling as Nerf Dog replacements) in 3 minutes has not done any damage to this one so that's a win. I recommend this as a much better ball than the fuzzy tennis balls. I like the colors too since many dog toys are green (which gets lost in the lawn, etc.) or red (even though dogs have red/green color blindness. Blue and orange are good and pretty easy to find. I liked these well enough that this set was my second purchase so I will have spares in case the others are lost.

My Baby loves his new baby!
Size: Medium, Size: Medium
Finally! A ball my 107 lb. pitty/pointer mix can’t destroy. He has torn up every single “indestructible” toy in a day or so until now. He peels fabric and fur off non-rubber toys. He is a 4-legged shredder. I’ve added pictures of him for a size reference of my dog versus this product. I know I had wanted that when shopping for this item. This ball is now his beloved “baby.” He goes absolutely insane looking for it, chewing it, chasing it, and even sleeping with it. He won’t rest unless he knows exactly where it is. It is his only toy, and he is good with that. After getting this home, I tried giving him other choices, but he won’t touch them. I was worried that he would rip it apart by putting his teeth in the holes, but so far, not a scratch. It is soft enough to collapse just enough to keep it from cracking when his jaws crush it but not so soft that he can rip it to sheds. The holes are large enough to prevent a suction or vacuum effect on his tongue or mouth. For his size jaws, it is a perfect fit. Other dogs might have problems with suction or be able to get their teeth in those holes and rip it apart. Who knows? The older version of the Chuckit squeaky ball was his favorite for the year and a half he had it, but the way they make them now, he peels off the orange triangle in hours flat, the squeaker falls out (choking hazard), and then he rips it apart. I’m going to stock up on these. I can’t imagine how crazy he will be if they ever stop production or change the materials.

Our German Sheppard loves these
Size: Medium
These cost a bit more than tennis balls, but they are so much nicer and longer lasting. For starters, they stay cleaner than tennis balls because they’re smooth rubber. Dirt won’t build up on them and if anything does stick, like grass or soil, it falls off once the dog slobber dries. They’re also thick, so they don’t fall apart or blow out like a normal tennis ball does in our dog’s jaws after 30 seconds. Our GS chomps on these like crazy and the only damage they’ve suffered is a crack that developed from the edge of the hole, but the crack is growing very slowly and none of these balls have totally failed yet. The balls do whistle when thrown ant high speed and that may help a dog track and locate it, but I’m not sure. Our neighbors hear the whistling too so it’s far from silent. Lastly the orange ball is easy to locate out in our yard, but the dark blue practically disappears.

Great for smaller dogs
Size: Small
These two balls are perfect for the smaller mouthed dog that loves to play fetch. These balls are not only super durable (lots of teeth biting), but float in the baby pool we use for our miniature dachshunds. The value here is much better than you’d find anywhere else. The noise, if bitten hard enough, was “low” at best. Easy to spot/find if overthrown. Will definitely buy again once these are in bad repair; so far, so good-love these for my fur babies!

My dogs favorite balls
Size: Medium
These are great for my dog who always has to have a ball in her mouth. Not too hard so I don't have to worry about her teeth. They last for ever. They do lose their shape a little over time (like I said, she always has a ball in her mouth) they become a little oval in shape. They still bounce, she still chases it and she still chews on it so I don't think she notices or cares. I've gotten her a bag full of these over time and I have only seen one that she chewed a chunk out.
