You can be guaranteed that Maton will build a guitar that you can truthfully say is unique, a one-off.

All timbers selected for Custom Shop guitars are hand picked from Maton’s vast stocks and then thoroughly checked for structural integrity. This ensures that only top quality materials find their way into a Custom Shop guitar. The timber’s visual appeal and tonal quality also form an important part of the selection process. All the chosen components are then individually ‘voiced’ to ensure they can produce maximum acoustic performance. This is done by ‘tap testing’ and flexing each piece to determine maximum strength and minimum weight, the recipe for great tone. It is a process that requires deep experience and construction knowledge and can only be done by an extremely skilled craftsman.

The Flatpicker by The Maton Custom Shop was a very basic choice to make. Create a Simple and Elegant straight up Dreadnought that could appeal to a variety of players from Bluegrass pickers to a home studio producer who wants a guitar with plenty of voice. This Custom Shop Model is a combination of Classic Looks, Classic Tones, and Classic Timbers. The European Spruce Top and Indian Rosewood back and sides are a fundamental combination for such a guitar. It had to be Bass heavy with thick midrange tones and piercing trebles. A Classic Mahogany One Piece neck adds to the big sound and lovers of the Classic Flat top acoustic guitar will not be disappointed. Just think Doc Watson or Tony Rice and you will be at home with the Flatpicker. Strummed in a song or Ragtime classic, it is said by Andy Allen that the the Flatpicker has been one of his favorite journeys as a Luthier.
