Description:
"The real charm of Byways isn't playing spot-the-location as Deakins dabbles between takes, but the window it opens onto his youthful eye. You can trace his drive from an early age to catch the light at its best - or wait for it - all night if necessary." - The Telegraph

"...his first monograph, Byways, looks not to his revered cinematography career, but his decades-long habit of taking still photographs. Among them are breathtaking landscapes and moments of stillness, interspersed with photographs imbued with wit thanks to the playful possibilities of scale, framing and timing. It's the kind of dry humour that sits passers by in conversation with monuments and miscellaneous objects in the street, or captures a canine rendition of Cartier-Bresson's seminal image Behind The Gare Saint-Lazare. - Creative Review

"Candid close-ups, wide-angle landscapes, and dynamic long exposures, his monochrome photographs display a variety of approaches and techniques, yet first and foremost, testify to the remarkably perceptive artistic gaze that has seen him nominated for an Oscar on fifteen separate occasions (winning twice).

Thoughtful, poetic, and profoundly arresting, they display his distinct enigmatic sensibility, and presented for the most part with little or no information or context (index aside) form a compelling visual soliloquy that conveys with great eloquence, the profound power of the still image."

Great book to understand Iran's strategy in a historical context
Nasr provides a solid understanding of Iran both in contemporary and historical context. It makes the case clear what and how Iran is thinking. Reading it at the time of Us-Israel and Iran war helped make sense of the news media, which often follows shallow analysis.

Iran’s Strategic Error.
Format: Audiobook
Excellent discussion of Iran’s grand strategy in what they believe will protect their Nation as they continue as the world’s pariah. The book is well written and clearly lays out the history of Iran over the past 50-60 years and why they are implementing this strategy albeit a failed one, and the results. The Ayatollahs continue to pursue the destruction of Israel and struggle via terrorism and supporting war proxies to become the regions power, instead of pursuing economic wealth. This book describes the how’s and whys of this failed strategy. Good reading

Highly Recommend
Format: Hardcover
A must read, especially during the current circumstances, for anyone wanting to have a better understanding of the nuanced Iranian political strategy. This book not only clarifies how the current government of Iran thinks and operates but also why it does what it does. Contrary to the western narrow and wrongheaded perception of the Iranian regime as an fanatical religious theocracy, the book lays bare different approches the Iranian government takes to different problems and shows how many of those decisions are not based on religious convictions. Decisions are made for pragmatic and historical reasons and until the Western governments understand what the issues are, they will not be able to find a path forward that does not include violence, war, and mass casualties. During these times that you have ignorant American Senators that push for war on behalf of a foreign government and don't know the most basic facts about Iran, I wish every American and European politician would read this book before uttering another word.

A good explanation of Iran’s conduct
I think this book explains quite well how Iranian leaders think and why the country is so engaged in various conflicts in the Middle East.
