Napoleonic firepower
Artillery was Napoleon Bonaparte's pride and joy, and for good reason, as he himself began his military career as an artillery officer. He claimed that "artillery wins the battle," and his approach revolutionized the way cannons were used on the battlefield. French artillery used equipment according to the Gribeauval system, established in the 1770s. These were 4-, 8- and 12-pounder cannons and 6-inch howitzers. 12-pounder cannons, like the one included in this COBI set, were the backbone of firepower in the main battle line. Supported by trained gunners, these cannons could decide battles even before the infantry clash.
