Sapphires occur naturally in every color of the rainbow, not just blue. Colorless (white) sapphires make an excellent alternative to diamonds, because of their beauty as well as their durability. Sapphires, whether lab-created or mined from the earth, have exceptional toughness and, with a Mohs hardness of 9, cannot be scratched by anything other than a diamond.

Sapphire symbolizes nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. In folklore, it is said to increase wisdom, concentration, and creativity; and promote purity and depth of thought. It is known as the stone of new love and commitment. Sapphire is thought to bring peace of mind, serenity and prosperity. 

Inspiration: The "marvelous spiral" - spira mirabilis - the epitome of mathematics in nature. In geometry, a logarithmic spiral represents regular repeated growth. One of the wonders of the natural world is the way in which physics and mathematics leave their fingerprints so beautifully - as illustrated by the Golden Ratio spiral of sacred geometry.
