Umpqua National Forest

This nearly one-million acre publicly-owned Umpqua National Forest is located on the western slopes of the cascades in southwest Oregon. Managed by USDA Forest Service, the Umpqua National Forest has been producing a wide range of goods and services for the American people since it was established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908. The Forest includes a diverse area of rugged peaks, high mountain lakes, sparkling rivers, and waterfalls. The deep wooded canyons produce a wealth of water resources, timber, forage, wildlife, and outdoor recreation opportunities. 

The Umpqua National Forest is best known for its "destination waters - where friends and family meet." From thundering waterfalls to still mountain lakes, water is the essence of the Forest. These regionally distinctive features provide generations of visitors natural settings for recreation, and connect visitors with other significant features and destinations. Visitors can choose among many developed campgrounds, trails and day-use sites, as well as Mount Thielson, Boulder Creek and Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness Areas, the North Umpqua Wild & Scenic River and world-class fisheries.
