Été 1980 : Tandis que les chantiers navals de Gdansk connaissent une grève sans précédent, Winkel, journaliste alcoolique officiellement envoyé sur place afin de couvrir l’événement, a pour véritable mission de recueillir des éléments à charge contre les leaders syndicaux, afin de les discréditer et mettre fin au mouvement de contestation. En première ligne de ses commanditaires, un certain Maciek Tomczyk, fauteur de trouble et fils de Birkut, « l’homme de marbre »…
Tourné dans l’urgence des véritables grèves ayant donné naissance au mouvement Solidarność, L’HOMME DE FER constitue à la fois une extension des thèmes et personnages explorés dans L’HOMME DE MARBRE, tout en creusant une voie unique de contestation ouverte et de soutien à la cause d’un peuple étouffé par le régime. Captant magistralement l’air du temps, et écrivant l’histoire autant qu’il ne la documente, le film-enquête d’Andrzej Wajda reste un exemple unique de cinéma militant et populaire, Palme d’Or du Festival de Cannes 1981.
Disponible en Blu-Ray pour la première fois en France, le film est présenté dans sa dernière restauration 2K.
