This was achieved at Kill Devil Hill, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903. In the first of four flights made on that day, the Flyer, piloted by Orville, was airborne for 12 seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet. In the fourth and final flight, piloted by Wilbur, it was airborne for 59 seconds and covered 852 feet. The age of aviation had begun!
