How to Stencil the Top of a Cake with Buttercream

1. Your buttercream surface must be completely dry. Let the cake sit overnight or until firm.

2. Place the stencil flat on top of the cake.

3. Spread a thin layer of buttercream over the stencil using an offset spatula or icing spreader.

4. Carefully lift the stencil straight up to reveal your design.

How to Stencil Cakes, Cheesecakes, or Pies with Powdered Sugar or Cocoa

1. Place your unfrosted cake, cheesecake, or pie on a serving plate or cake stand.

2. Position the stencil on top and press gently so it sits flat.

3. Using a sifter, dust powdered sugar or cocoa powder evenly across the stencil.

4. Carefully lift the stencil straight up (do not tilt) to reveal the design.

This method works beautifully on cheesecakes, flourless cakes, pies, and plated desserts.
