After the Kitty League folded in 1906, Charleston fielded teams in the Eastern Illinois League under different names in 1907 and 1908 (first the Charleston Broom Corn Cutters and then the Charleston Evangelists, yes, really). When those teams disbanded, minor league baseball left the Charleston-Mattoon area and has not returned.
