Taking inspiration from one of the world's most beloved vintage guitars, the Epiphone 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue is a marvel for players seeking an authentic Standard experience. The 1960 Les Paul – a dream find for most collectors – gained a formidable reputation for its playability and sound. This Epiphone model joins in on the "Inspired by Gibson Custom" series with faithful and authentic specs and sounds for a Les Paul Standard experience as you've always known it.

There's plenty to explore with this "Inspired by Gibson Custom" model that you'd find similar to original 1960 Gibson models. This all begins with a genuine mahogany single-cut body paired with a AAA flamed maple veneer top. Producing all the warmth and brightness of Gibson's classic tonewood combo, this Epiphone model is weighted and held authentically for a familiar feel when carried with a strap or sat down over the knee.

While original 1960 Les Paul Standards were constructed similarly to 1959's, a key distinction was the change to a faster SlimTaper neck. The "Inspired by Gibson Custom" model drops in with a one-piece mahogany neck taking that cue. A '60s SlimTaper profile enables faster playing and a smooth grip in hand while a bound rosewood fingerboard with Mother-of-Pearl trapezoid inlays inspires long playing sessions.

For its voice, this Epiphone 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue introduces its star players. Two USA Gibson Custombucker humbucking pickups with Alnico 3 magnets load into the body for summoning authentic Gibson humbucking warmth and breath for matching with any player's style. Hand-wired to CTS potentiometers and Luxe Bumblebee paper-in-oil capacitors, these pickups offer great expression and versatility as they invite players to mix through their vast spectrum of voices.

This Epiphone's hardware makes it even more spectacular. Onboard, a GraphTech nut and Epiphone Deluxe Double Ring tuning machines with keystone buttons meet past the Gibson-style "open book" headstock. At the scale's opposite end, an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge matches with a historic-style aluminum tailpiece for grounding strings stably and insuring fluid and responsive playing. An Epiphone brown hardshell case travels with this "Inspired by Gibson Custom" model.

As a throwback to one of Gibson's classic '60s guitars, this Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson Custom" model is an honest and authentic representation of Gibson's classic Les Paul Standard ready to be played.

Hours of pleasure and learning
N.T. Wright is an excellent teacher - easy to listen to and so knowledgeable. The videos follow the book exactly and the accompanying workbook makes study a joy not a chore

Part of a Set
There are three items available in Wright and Bird's massive work on the New Testament. This is the video that goes with the text and there is also a Workbook.

Video lectures, just as the subtitle promises
I was seduced into buying this set on the basis of NT Wright's reputation and advertising graphics showing Holy Land locations. Consequently, I didn't pay sufficient attention to the subtitle: "The New Testament in Its World: Video Lectures." And "lectures" is exactly what this set delivers. Talking heads, lecturing on the New Testament; sometimes in a studio, sometimes in eastern Mediterranean locations. The content is solid evangelical biblical scholarship. My disappointment is the almost complete lack of engagement with the spectacular settings much of these films are shot in. It seems to me that Wright and his producers missed a real opportunity by failing more explicitly to relate their lecture content to the places where they're standing. I give this set a three-star rating. The lectures are a perfectly fine introduction to the New Testament, if that's what you're looking for -- but you could put them on CDs or MP3s and listen in the car. The graphics add very little to these presentations.

Didn't get a lot out of it
My wife got me this for a Christmas present. Having previously made it through Eusebius' "Proof of the Gospel", she figured I could handle it. I know this is part of Zondervan's Academic product line and as such is not aimed at a general audience. What I discover was that if the audience lacks credentials in Philosophy or Theology, the incessant use of jargon and terminology that would most often only be encountered in a Seminary or Religious College is something I found off-putting.
