PORTED MOUTHPIECE

This bit fits the horse's mouth anatomically so it sits in the perfect position. The flattened area on the port allows plenty of space for the horse's tongue. As a result, many horses respond with increased relaxation and chewing.

This bit is often suitable for horses that won't tolerate tongue pressure and react by headshaking.

This bit is also a good choice for those that tend to put their tongue over the bit. The port helps to prevent this be removing the central tongue pressure.

CURB GAG

The Curb Gag is based on a similar concept to a running gag, but instead of using poll pressure it is replaced with chin/curb pressure. Using a second rein, it acts with slight leverage spreading pressure evenly on the lower jaw, bars and lip and is generally well accepted by horses. It allows a "letting go” of the curb chain by the rider for more freedom of the jaw. The pressure on the jaw can be tightened as needed.

The top rein on the other hand still allows the rider to use poll pressure without causing an overbending.

This bit is great for strong horses that are very eager into a fence.

SOFT OR HARD?

The soft mouthpiece is make from a supple, flexible material, which is pleasant in the horse's mouth yet has a steel core for safety. This bit is often useful for horses with a very soft mouth who don't like complicated mouthpieces.

The hard mouthpiece is made from a firm and non-flexible material that remains pleasant in the horse's mouth. It is often suitable for stronger horses or those that lean, as a less cumbersome alternative to vulcanite.

Please note that the curb gag is only legal for the jumping phases of eventing under FEI rules if two reins are used (with one attached to the main ring of the bit).

The Beris Ported Curb Gag is available in 13cm or 14cm with a hard or a soft mouthpiece.
