Following the first Kala U-Bass in 2009, Kala brings forth their Solid Hawaiian Koa-topped acoustic-electric fretted U-Bass to their U-Bass series. Kala's keen design and sweet tonality make it a cause for celebration.
This acoustic-electric fretted U-Bass is constructed in part utilizing Kala's private stock of Hawaiian Koa. Known for its sweet sound as a tonewood, Hawaiian Koa is a radiant and coveted pick for acoustic instruments universally, perfect for the charming, tropical tones of ukuleles and U-Basses. Solid Hawaiian Koa constitutes the top of this U-Bass, however, it is not the only Koa present. The back and sides of this U-Bass are shaped from Koa for a totally charming tonewood body. This body is bound with a maple binding and features a satin finish, silky to the touch. A mahogany neck joins in on the equation matched with a rosewood fingerboard. Together, all of these woods result in an exceptional experience both tangibly and acoustically.
Further additions to this Kala model include a Graph Tech Black TUSQ RW nut and Graph Tech TUSQ saddle for stability in strings across the full twenty-inch scale length. Custom Hipshot Ultralite tuners adorn the headstock of this U-Bass to assist in string changes and stable intonation. The acoustic experience is not the end of the journey for this U-Bass, however, as Fishman U-Bass EQ electronics enter the fray for an easily plugged-in translation of tone.
