Pol Roger, a family-owned and operated Champagne house founded in 1849, takes immense pride in crafting some of the world s finest Champagnes for over 160 years. The house owns 55% of the vineyards used in their production, primarily sourcing grapes from 1er and Grand Cru vineyards that rate an average of 95 points on the Échelle des Crus classification system. Each lot is aged separately based on village, vineyard, grower, and grape variety before final blending. The Champagnes are then aged and hand-riddled in the deep, cool cellars beneath the Epernay château, providing ideal conditions for the development of complexity and fine bubbles. Pol Roger ages all their Champagnes longer than legally required, ensuring that each bottle, produced entirely in-house, is a marriage of power and elegance. The Pol Roger Brut Réserve boasts a beautiful golden straw color and abundant, fine bubbles. On the nose, it offers a powerful and attractive entry, initially delivering aromas of fruit such as pear and mango, followed by delicate notes of honeysuckle, white jasmine, vanilla, and brioche. The palate presents a frank and dynamic attack, leading to a harmonious and pleasantly fresh wine with a well-structured backbone. Flavors of cooked fruit, including quince jelly and apricot jam, mingle with hints of beeswax and acacia honey. The finish is outstanding, with long-lasting fruity and spicy notes, featuring candied orange peel, tangerine, cardamom, and anise.

Excellent Tool for Approaching Homer via English
Format: Hardcover
I love the Loeb editions of Homer. I've already ready the Odyssey, now moving on to the Iliad. What I've especially started to enjoy with this volume of the Iliad is the editors decision to "call out" which lines were rejected by which ancient commentators (Aristarchus, etc.). This adds some fun to the reading because you get to review the line in Greek and try to surmise why they rejected it, or how the passage would work without the line. The translation is reasonably modern but still "lordly" and has the tone of a war epic. It was enjoyable to read aloud in both English and Greek.
