Dive deep into the complex military history of the Great Lakes region with 'Great Lakes Conflagration (Africa@War 14)' by Tom Cooper. This compelling paperback, published by Helion & Company, provides an in-depth analysis of military operations during one of Africa’s most tumultuous periods—the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the close of the 20th century. Measuring 210 x 300 mm and comprising 72 pages, this book meticulously details the buildup to the 1998 conflict, a pivotal chapter in the DRC’s history. Explore the strategic maneuvers by the Congolese, Rwandan, and Ugandan armies, alongside forces from Angola, Namibia, and Zimbabwe that were drawn into this fierce confrontation. Witness the Rwandan offensive aimed at destabilizing the Laurent Kabila government, which resulted in clashes that would shape the battlefield. The book chronicles the iconic Battle of Kinshasa and the fierce engagements along the Eastern Front, where Zimbabwean troops endeavored to halt the advances of Rwandan and Ugandan forces. With its focus on military tactics, foreign mercenaries, and intricate air-land operations, 'Great Lakes Conflagration' not only serves as an essential resource for historians and military enthusiasts alike but also highlights the broader implications of warfare in Africa. Unlock the complexities of 'The First African War' and understand its long-lasting impact on the region. Ideal for academics, military historians, and those interested in African military conflicts, this carefully researched volume is a must-have addition to your collection.Shipping Notes

Great travel book for kids.
Format: Paperback
This book was great, I plan to get one for any other city we visit that they have a book for. Good level info for my 8 year old but also had some fun things for my 4 year old to do. Very flexible so we could just see what we were going to see & work it into the ‘mission’. We would bust it out at our cafe/people watching stops to see what we needed to do at the next stop. The information was fun for kids and adults. You get to set points for a few things so the mission is completely attainable no matter what you do in the city AND you can set points for adventurous things your kiddos might not otherwise do... eg I got my 4 year old to try escargot!

Worth it!
Format: Paperback
Great book to help keep kids engaged and excited to tour through Paris. Recently used it on our trip with 5-8 year olds and had a blast searching for paintings in museums or various sites through the city. Had some interesting facts/history to share about the various places (although wish it had more)

Kept a 10 year old engaged
Format: Paperback
I bought this for my 10 year old for our trip to Paris. It contained some activities that kept him interested during our museum/castle trips. It even lead us to Chateau de Vincennes which we wouldn’t have found on our own! The Louvre hunt had us going all over the place (mainly because he can’t leave anything incomplete) but it helped initiate conversations about history.
The only issue is that the Notre Dame challenge is sadly impossible to complete now based on the fire in April. I also wish something would be added regarding Les Invalides.
If you have elementary aged kids then I would highly recommend.

Excellent addition to a trip
Format: Paperback
Just got back from Paris. My 9 year old daughter loved using this book throughout our adventures. It was light enough to carry with us each day and had a nice mix of information to read and things to look for. There were A LOT of different sites listed. In a week we still didn't get to some of them. Would definitely buy one of these books for another trip.
