CRICK, Susan Pseud. MAYHEW, Horace. Letters about Missusses by a Maid of All-Work: addressed to the editor of Diogenes, to a friend in her neighbourhood, to a friend in the country, to a friend in town, to her mother, and to her young man; in which she sets forth in a peculiarly interesting manner, the domestic grievances of servants in general. London: Houlston & Stoneman,. 1854.

8vo., sometime bound in half green morocco over marbled paper covered boards, lettered in gilt on upper board. With humorous illustrations. Spine sunned, a little rubbing to edges otherwise a very good copy of a scarce item.

First edition of this humorous satire on the trials and tribulations of being a maid in Victorian England.

Horace Mayhew had a lengthy career in journalism, serving as sub-editor of Punch with Douglas Jerrold and William Makepeace Thackeray and as editor of the Comic Almanac. In 1845 he was on the staff of contributors to George Cruikshank's Table Book, and was an early contributor to the Illustrated London News. His publications include the humorous sketches ‘Change for a Shilling’, ‘Model Men’, and ‘Model Women and Children’ (all 1848; published in 1872 in one volume entitled Wonderful People); ‘Whom to Marry and How to Get Married’ (1848); ‘A Plate of Heads’, with drawings by Gavarni (1849); ‘The Toothache’ (1849); ‘Guy Faux’ (1849); and ‘Letters Left at the Pastry-Cook's’ (1853).

Great sleep
Color: White, Size: Queen (Pack of 2), Color: White, Size: Queen (Pack of 2)
Finally found a pillow that is comfortable. Tested about 5 until I found the right one. This is perfect for back and side sleepers. Firm, but soft. Just enough filling and great quality. Will hold up for many years.

Good overall
Color: White, Size: Standard (Pack of 2)
Bought these for our guest bedroom. They are quite overstuffed, so if you like full pillows this will be your thing. As such they are dense and firm. The height is a bit much if you are small framed, but are comfortable overall and stay cool enough to be nice in the summer.

Finally Found Pillows Everyone Loves
Color: White, Size: King (Pack of 4)
I LOVE these pillows. I bought the king-size set and ended up liking them so much that I want them on every bed in the house. They’re soft but still supportive, and they actually work for different sleeping positions, back, side, and stomach sleepers. They don’t go flat, but they’re also not overly stiff, which is such a hard balance to find. I throw them in the washing machine which makes them super easy to wash! The size is true to King! They feel cool and hotel-quality, and the down-alternative fill is great if you don’t want real feathers. I wake up without neck pain, and they keep their shape night after night. If you’re picky about pillows (like I am), these are absolutely worth it. Comfortable, affordable, and a great value for a set of four.
