Notable names include Al Cicotte, great-nephew of Black Sox pitcher Eddie Cicotte; Chuck Harmon, the Cincinnati Reds’ first African-American player; and Jim Kaat, who became a Hall of Famer after a 25-year MLB career. Earlier Senators teams featured Joe Nuxhall, who famously debuted in MLB at age 15 and later became a beloved Reds broadcaster. After 1960, the franchise became the Charleston Indians for three seasons before professional baseball briefly left the city. In 1971, the Columbus Jets relocated to Charleston as the Charlies.
