Explore 'The Struggle for Development' by Benjamin Selwyn, a compelling analysis that addresses the paradox of escalating global wealth amidst widespread poverty. This critical book challenges the conventional narratives of economic growth and poverty alleviation, revealing how capitalism often exacerbates inequity and environmental degradation. With insightful critiques of development theories—neoliberal, statist, and Marxist—Selwyn emphasizes the need to rethink our perceptions of poverty and wealth. He exposes the flaws in the World Bank's poverty measurement methods and highlights the adverse impacts of global supply chains on vulnerable populations, particularly impoverished female workers.Delve into the transformative concept of labour-led development, which showcases how collective action among marginalized groups—like South African shack-dwellers, East Asian and Indian industrial workers, and Latin American landless labourers—can foster human development. This enlightening read is essential for anyone interested in social justice, economic theory, and the dynamics of capitalist development.

Description:
The world economy is expanding rapidly despite chronic economic crises. Yet the majority of the world's population live in poverty. Why are wealth and poverty two sides of the coin of capitalist development? What can be done to overcome this destructive dynamic?
In this hard-hitting analysis Benjamin Selwyn shows how capitalism generates widespread poverty, gender discrimination and environmental destruction. He debunks the World Bank's dollar-a-day methodology for calculating poverty, arguing that the proliferation of global supply chains is based on the labour of impoverished women workers and environmental ruin. Development theories “ from neoliberal to statist and Marxist “ are revealed as justifying and promoting labouring class exploitation despite their pro-poor rhetoric. Selwyn also offers an alternative in the form of labour-led development, which shows how collective actions by labouring classes “ whether South African shack-dwellers and miners, East Asian and Indian Industrial workers, or Latin American landless labourers and unemployed workers “ can and do generate new forms of human development. This labour-led struggle for development can empower even the poorest nations to overcome many of the obstacles that block their way to more prosperous and equitable lives.

Surprisingly great service!
Surprisingly great service. I just didn’t expect my claim to be handled so efficiently. Replaced the purchase price of my printer that was 3 years into a 4 year protection plan.

Works, but reimbursement for damaged items come via Amazon Gift Card, not Cash
Just confirming that this protection plan actually works.
Asurion first told me that they'd try and repair my item.
Likely, they couldn't find someone to repair the type of item I bought (KVM), so they offered payment (original cost of the item) via Amazon Gift Card.
Giving 4 out of 5 stars -> 4 instead of 5 because Amazon Gift Card isn't Cash. Cash is always better.

When Acer's Warranty Policy left my high and dry, Asurion Protection came to the rescue
My Acer Monitor was damaged during a brownout due to a lightning strike close to my house; Acer Customer Support told me that their warranty did not cover this sort of damage but luckily for me, Asurion Protection did. I simply mailed them the item for repairs with their shipping label, and once they realized that the item was damaged beyond repair, they emailed me an Amazon Gift Card Code with the amount spent on the monitor; I'm extremely happy that I bought their protection because without it, I would have had to pay the price of a new monitor to get my PC Setup back into commission. Many Thanks, Asurion Protection

Don't trust asurion
I first contacted Amazon for this product when I didn't receive this. I bought this back in October 22nd or 23rd with my Lenovo chromebook idea pad flex which it's now December 16th on a Friday night I have yet to receive it. I first contacted Amazon about it November 3rd they said to give asurion a week to back it up for the email delivery. Waited a couple weeks ans nothing happened, contacted Amazon and they put me on with asurion which I then revived a text through tech support saying I'll receive it soon, give them 24 hours to respond with it. Going through 2 links and 2 sites, an email verification a phone number verification and an Amazon sign in "Sorry, we are unable to find your plan." Was the response I was given after all of that. It then put me through the sign-ins again, at the very start of the last 45 minutes hence why I'm writing this. Not to mention the last month I've been trying to contact them for email delivery of my protection plan. I spent $108+ tax on the 4 year protection plan on the upgraded version of my chromebook IdeaPad, which was a gift to someome special to me. Now if It shuts down tomorrow it's not going to get the honored 4 year protection plan, warranty. The device was expensive and asurion can't even honor their own protection plans.
