The journey goes on with the EarthQuaker Devices Scrolls Bass Odyssey! This ultra-modern, ultra-outfitted bass preamp comes together as the result of tireless work and collaboration with world-renowned bassist Kentaro Nakao meant to bring together any bass and amp together seamlessly. Making stops at just about any classic bass tone you could shake a stick at, the Scrolls balances a deep EQ-shaping experience with a versatile drive engine to play matchmaker for any and every rig, stage, and player.

Kentaro Nakao, famed bassist of Japanese bands Number Girl and Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her, teamed up with EQD for his vast knowledge and experience surrounding bass rigs. Scrolls delivers what essentially every bassist needs: EQ and at least some drive. The right side of Scrolls delivers this at least some with a deep, expressive, tube-like distortion. Separate Drive, Level, and clean mix Blend controls mean the Scrolls' drive is easy to crank, but also easy to clean. Tone and Bandwidth controls compound on this customization even further to sharpen and widen your drive sound.

To the Scrolls' left side, we get its expansive EQ-shaping brain. Active EQ controls deliver studio-quality Bass, Middle, and Treble controls that get into the nitty gritty quickly. Onboard, the Scrolls' "secret weapon" is its Variable Frequency control that can cut or boost specific frequencies between 20Hz and 10khz. Three push-button switches add onto this experience for quick, one-and-done tone shaping.

The Scrolls' is additionally built out for ultra-modern connectivity. A buffered parallel out connection allows for clean signal to be sent out to another destination – a mixing or studio board, perhaps – while the rest of the pedal works its mojo. While this is going on, an onboard effects loop allows for working in modulation or other time-based effects into the Scroll's flow after the Drive but before the EQ sections. Even more connectivity options include a balanced XLR out for direct-out purposes. Standard nine-volt center negative power requirements make the Scrolls effortless on any board.

Is your bass board journey over with Scrolls? In a way, it's just begun.

inexpensive usb3.1 gen 2 hub with PD
This USB3.1 gen 2 hub is well made, featuring VIA Labs controller (device id 2109:2822) and is made in China. It looks nice and performs according to the specs. I wish usb-c socket supported TB3/Alt DP cable to connect a display to it, but it is apparently made mainly for power delivery. I think the hub is a good value.

premium feel in the hand.
Can't really say whether it's that good or not elecronics wise since I didn't test it but it works like it's supposed to. Meanwhile, the housing oh man. It's premium. It feels like hard aluminum or something, very nice. Edges are rounded too with just the right sharpness like a macbook. Others would've been plastic. This is really nice for the price and if the specs really are 10Gbps, that's really good because most in this price range is 5Gbps.
