The 6 precut, pine boards combine together easily using the included hardware and straightforward instructions, and the 0.75” thick wood keeps this nesting area nicely insulated. Gaps below the roof line ventilate the shelter, while the soft yellow color of the wooden body prevents nestlings from overheating. A 1.5” diameter entry allows bluebirds to readily enter the domicile, and a wooden block around this opening acts as a barrier against predators reaching into the cavity. The downward sloping roof directs water away from the nesting cavity, while gaps in the corners of the base allow any captured rain to drain. A metal latch allows one side panel to swing upward for nest checks and maintenance, and an included metal hanger affixes readily to the back of the home for placement against a wall or fence line.
