Story
Each year I look to the mountains for a time of renewal, a time to come closer to Mother Earth. Mountain time is also when I can walk and ride with my ancestors in our age old tradition of hunting.
There has always been a longing to share “High Country” experiences with family as well as friends, until this year, that is. I have finally had the privilege of sharing a campfire, meals, and a tent with my brother, Matt. I have accompanied him through the joy and the pain of taking his first elk.
It was a cool October afternoon, and by the time we were ready to head back to camp in the failing light of late afternoon, a light snow had begun to fall. I will always envision my brother riding with his collar up and his stetson pulled low over his face to protect him from the wind-driven snow. It was a good hunt, and Matt had elk meat for his children.
This year has been one of the best in my life, I have been seldom more content and I look forward to many days of quality time in the mountains with family and friends. October Snow marks the last serigraph of 1994 and a return to print with an excellent printer and friend, Vincent Rickard.
